Gizzeria 3

About the Artist.

A little background information on Rosemary Mafrici.

After visiting my husband, Frank's, home town of Gizzeria I was captivated by not only the wonderful welcome of the locals, but also by the atmosphere of the streets. Over the last couple of years I have begun to try to capture the beauty of the village. Getting up early to capture the light, which is very special in the early morning and working until the sun becomes over-powering around midday.

I have spent many contented hours lost in concentration producing these paintings and I offer you the opportunity to view them. After being continually stopped by passers by and asked if they were for sale I have decided to produce them as prints & postcards. If you are a resident or just a visitor to Gizzeria and have a special location that you would like me to paint please get in touch and on my next visit I will endeavour to capture this for you.

As a practising artist of over 25 years I have always had a love of painting. The effect of light on the colour of objects is what really captures my attention and I do not work to any set palette of colours. I am always astonished at the variety of colour that you can see in any scene and try to capture this.

I have to admit my first love is portraiture and have never lost my love of this subject matter. My fascination with colour was pushed to its limits working as a cartoon background artist for television. In this medium a sense of mood and atmosphere is essential to help the cartoon take on its own reality.

In recent years teaching both adults and children has taught me to appreciate art even more. I take great pleasure in developing the skills and interests of my students and the excitement of producing a successful picture is always a source of great pleasure. Whilst teaching I have also learnt so much and hopefully developed my own skills further. I am constantly surprised by my students and can often learn as much from them as they do from me.
